{"id":95547,"date":"2024-09-24T06:03:04","date_gmt":"2024-09-24T06:03:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/09\/24\/boeing-union-hits-out-over-final-30-pay-rise-offer\/"},"modified":"2024-09-24T06:03:04","modified_gmt":"2024-09-24T06:03:04","slug":"boeing-union-hits-out-over-final-30-pay-rise-offer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/boeing-union-hits-out-over-final-30-pay-rise-offer\/","title":{"rendered":"Boeing union hits out over \u2018final\u2019 30% pay rise offer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The union representing thousands of striking Boeing workers has hit out at what the aircraft manufacturing giant called its \u201cbest and final\u201d pay offer, which proposed a 30% rise over four years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The new offer also included the reinstatement of a performance bonus and improved retirement benefits.<\/p>\n<p>However, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) said the offer was not negotiated with the union and that \u201cit was thrown at us without any discussion\u201d \u2013 a claim Boeing denies.<\/p>\n<p>More than 30,000 Boeing workers went on strike earlier this month after rejecting a 25% pay rise offer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter listening to our employees and their concerns, Boeing today presented our best and final offer,\u201d the aircraft manufacturing giant said in a letter.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal doubles the value of a one-off bonus for signing a new pay deal to $6,000 (\u00a34,497).<\/p>\n<p>Boeing said the offer is dependent on it being ratified by union members by midnight pacific time on Friday 27 September (7am GMT on Saturday 28 September).<\/p>\n<p>But IAM said Boeing sent the new offer directly to union members and the media without telling the union\u2019s representatives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis tactic is a blatant show of disrespect to you \u2013 our members \u2013 and the bargaining process,\u201d IAM said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>The union also said it would not hold a vote of its membership ahead of Boeing\u2019s deadline.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Boeing told the BBC: \u201cWe have bargained in good faith with the IAM since formal negotiations began in March.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe first presented the offer to the union and then transparently shared the details with our employees,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>Boeing workers voted to strike on September 13 after rejecting a new contract deal, which included a 25% pay rise over four years.<\/p>\n<p>The union had initially aimed for a number of improvements to workers\u2019 packages, including a 40% pay rise.<\/p>\n<p>Almost 95% of the union members \u2013 who produce planes including the 737 Max and 777 \u2013 voted to reject Boeing\u2019s initial offer.<\/p>\n<p>Of those who voted, 96% backed strike action until a new agreement could be reached.<\/p>\n<p>The strike threatens to cost Boeing billions of dollars, deepening the crisis at a company already facing significant challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Its impacts are already being felt across the industry and wider US economy too, as Boeing has halted shipments of most parts and taken other steps to save money.<\/p>\n<p>The company has already suspended the jobs of tens of thousands of staff.<\/p>\n<p>It has also said that US-based executives, managers and staff would be asked to take one week of furlough every four weeks for as long as the walkout lasts.<\/p>\n<p>Government officials are now helping to mediate talks between the two sides.<\/p>\n<p>The post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kbc.co.ke\/boeing-union-hits-out-over-final-30-pay-rise-offer\/\">Boeing union hits out over \u2018final\u2019 30% pay rise offer<\/a> first appeared on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kbc.co.ke\/\">KBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kbc.co.ke\/boeing-union-hits-out-over-final-30-pay-rise-offer\/\">Boeing union hits out over \u2018final\u2019 30% pay rise offer<\/a> appeared first on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kbc.co.ke\/\">KBC<\/a>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The union representing thousands of striking Boeing workers has hit out at what the aircraft manufacturing giant called its \u201cbest and final\u201d pay offer, which proposed a 30% rise over four years.
