The President of the Law Society of Kenya, Faith Odhiambo, has condemned the brutal abduction and torture of a Mombasa-based blogger, saying it highlights the failures of leadership in the country.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Odhiambo said that the bloggers\u2019 ordeal was a sign of a deeper crisis in Kenyan governance, one that was characterized by a disregard for human rights, humanity, and conscience. She termed the impunity exhibited by those in positions of authority \u201cindefensible\u201d and insisted that those responsible for any wrongdoing must face consequences.<\/p>\n
LSK has now insisted that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations find and press charges against the individuals who carried out the heinous acts as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe call on the DCI to immediately bring the individuals behind these heinous acts to book and demand that the ODPP institute charges against such criminal conduct. Kenya is a country governed by the rule of law, and nobody is above it, especially not any state officer that might be involved\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir said he was hurt by accusations linking him and his family to the abduction and sodomy of the blogger.<\/p>\n
The 24-year-old was allegedly abducted on September 12 by a group of about 20 county officers from his home in Bamburi.<\/p>\n
He says he was sodomised and forced to apologise for criticising the Mombasa County government.<\/p>\n
Mombasa County Executive Committee Member of Lands Mohamed Hussein was arrested in connection with the incident that continues to draw widespread condemnation.<\/p>\n
Coast regional Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss Adan Guyo said Mr Hussein, popularly known as Amadoh, was arrested on Sunday. He was however freed after obtaining an anticipatory bail.<\/p>\n
He assured that more arrests will be made as investigations continue.<\/p>\n
