{"id":98465,"date":"2024-10-06T14:03:55","date_gmt":"2024-10-06T14:03:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/10\/06\/porugal-commits-to-support-morocco-following-the-ecj-ruling\/"},"modified":"2024-10-06T14:03:55","modified_gmt":"2024-10-06T14:03:55","slug":"porugal-commits-to-support-morocco-following-the-ecj-ruling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/porugal-commits-to-support-morocco-following-the-ecj-ruling\/","title":{"rendered":"Porugal commits to support Morocco  following the ECJ ruling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Portugal has taken note of the decisions of the Court of Justice of the European Union of October 4 on the agreements concluded between the European Union and Morocco in the areas of fisheries and the liberalization of agricultural products.<\/p>\n<p>Portugal considers the partnership between the European Union and Morocco to be essential and will work with European partners and the European institutions to deepen it in all areas.<\/p>\n<p>On a bilateral level, Portugal and Morocco also have a strategic partnership, marked by a long relationship of respect and friendship with great substance on a political, diplomatic and economic level.<\/p>\n<p>In the year that marks the 250th anniversary of the Peace Treaty, strengthening relations with Morocco, both bilaterally and in Europe, is a strategic priority for Portugal.<\/p>\n<p>The European Union (EU) and several member states have expressed their unwavering commitment to the Union\u2019s strategic partnership with Morocco and their desire to further strengthen it, following the European Court of Justice (ECJ) rulings on the fishing and agricultural agreements between the bloc and the Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU High Representative Josep Borrell reaffirmed, in a joint statement, the EU\u2019s commitment to preserving and strengthening close relations with Morocco in all areas, in line with the pacta sunt servanda principle.<\/p>\n<p>This joint statement, a rare political act highlighting the importance of Morocco, emphasizes the significance of the EU\u2019s partnership with Morocco. It reiterates the \u201chigh value\u201d the EU places on its \u201clong-standing, wide-opening, and deep\u201d strategic partnership with Morocco.<\/p>\n<p>The two officials also noted that the two parties have developed over the years \u201ca profound friendship and a solid and multi-faceted cooperation, which we intend to take to the next level in the coming weeks and months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several EU countries followed suit, emphasizing the strategic nature of the Morocco-EU partnership.<\/p>\n<p>In Madrid, Spanish Foreign Minister Jos\u00e9 Manuel Albares defended the \u201cstrategic partnership\u201d with Morocco and the desire to maintain it, while expressing his government\u2019s respect for the ECJ\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>Albares stressed the importance of the strategic partnership between the EU and Morocco for both parties and the \u201cbenefits\u201d it has brought to the fishing and agricultural sectors. He further affirmed that the Spanish government would continue \u201cto work with the EU and Morocco to preserve and further develop this privileged relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, France reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to its exceptional partnership with Morocco and its determination to deepen it. In a statement, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs emphasized that the relationship between the EU and Morocco is of strategic importance.<\/p>\n<p>It affirmed that Paris would continue working with its European partners to strengthen their exchanges, particularly economic ones, and to preserve the achievements of the partnership, in accordance with international law.<\/p>\n<p>As President Emmanuel Macron wrote to His Majesty King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the Throne Day, France remains determined to support Morocco\u2019s efforts towards the economic and social development of the Sahara for the benefit of local populations, the Quai d\u2019Orsay added.<\/p>\n<p>For its part, Hungary, which holds the rotating presidency of the EU Council, reiterated its constant position in favour of strengthening the strategic partnership between the EU and the Kingdom of Morocco, stating that this is \u201cin our common interest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue to work to serve these interests by strengthening ties and expanding cooperation with Morocco into new areas,\u201d said the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in a statement, adding that Budapest is closely studying the ECJ ruling regarding the EU-Morocco fishing and agricultural agreements.<\/p>\n<p>Belgium also reiterated its commitment to the strategic partnership between the European Union and Morocco and its dedication to continue working on deepening this relationship.
