Feb 22 – Sadaf Ameer Baloch has made a heartfelt plea to Pakistani authorities for the safe return of her father, Ameer Baaksh Baloch, who mysteriously disappeared in 2014, as reported by the Balochistan Post.
Alleging that her father was forcibly taken by Pakistani security forces from the Kulanch area of Gwadar district on August 4, 2014, Sadaf shared the anguish of not having seen him or received any information about his whereabouts for the past decade.
In her quest for answers, Sadaf participated in a sit-in protest held in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital, demanding her father’s safe return. However, the lack of progress left her disheartened. Determined to reignite efforts to find her missing father, Sadaf announced plans for a social media campaign on X (formerly known as Twitter), scheduled for February 21, 2024, in collaboration with the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC). The campaign aims to shed light on her father’s disappearance and garner support from the online community, running from 7 pm to midnight (local time).
Expressing solidarity with Sadaf’s cause, BYC also addressed the recent loss of Sindhi political and social activist Hidayat Lohar. The discovery of mass graves has reignited discussions on the Baloch Genocide, adding another layer of pain to the ongoing struggle for justice.
Amidst these developments, Balochistan continues to witness increased security operations, perpetuating a cycle of violence and oppression. Activists like Mahrang Baloch emphasize the need for international intervention, urging the UN Working Group to investigate human rights violations in the region.
Despite the establishment of the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances in 2011, cases of missing persons remain unresolved, highlighting the urgent need for transparency and justice in Pakistan.
