The Coast Regional Police Commander (RPC), Ali Nuno, has directed officers to justifiably use firearms against machete-wielding criminals who have been terrorising residents of Mombasa and Kilifi counties.
The directive follows a resurgence of violent machete-wielding gangs, some of whom were captured on Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras robbing and injuring innocent members of the public in the neighbouring coastal counties.
The RPC assured residents that the region remains calm, with security heightened across the Coast, while warning youths against engaging in criminal activities, noting that police will ultimately catch up with them.
“You have only two options, as we normally say. You desist and accept salvation. If you are not going to accept salvation, the second option is to move out of the entire coastal region,” said Nuno.
“To the contrary, the full force of the law will apply, and we will not hesitate to use our firearms. Two were fatally injured in Likoni, and that is how Likoni became quiet. Therefore, where we are justified to use our firearms, we will not hesitate to do so,” he added.
