CoG slams senators over alleged assault on Samburu Governor Lelelit

Council of Governors Chair Ahmed Abdullahi has condemned senators over the alleged assault on Samburu Governor Lati Lelelit at Parliament.

Speaking to the media, Abdullahi said the incident occurred when some senators were seen attempting to forcefully drag the governor to appear before the Senate County Public Accounts Committee to respond to audit queries.

He termed the incident as harassment, assault and intimidation, calling for respect for due process and proper engagement between Governors and the Senate.

Abdullulahi further urged relevant authorities to investigate the matter, as they seek legal redress to matter.

Even as the standoff between Governor and the Senate over oversight and audit issues escalates Abdullahi says the Council remains committed to cooperating with oversight institutions, but insists that engagements must be conducted lawfully and with respect for the rule of law.
