Gachagua seeks spiritual intervention in war on substance abuse

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 3 — Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called for spiritual intervention through the church terming it as key to the fight against alcohol abuse among the youths.

Speaking in Mbeere, Embu County on Saturday, the DP said the youths should engage more in the church to resist the temptation e of engaging in alcohol consumption.

Gachagua has further urged religious leaders to make a stride and encourage the youths to engage more in religious activities cementing that youths should only be focused on their spiritual health, discipline, and their jobs.

“The real formula is taking these youths and giving them jobs. They should accept Jesus, get saved, have good discipline, do their businesses, then go back to church,” he stated.

The DP further pointed out that the Mount Kenya region was among the regions that were severely affected by irresponsible alcohol consumption at some point promoted by community leaders and law enforcement officers.

“We suffered a lot in the Mt Kenya Region. For 10 years all the bad alcohol that was made in Nairobi and brought here.No one was speaking. The chiefs were ignorant, the police even some of them drunk, and some other chiefs even kept bars,” he stated.

The DP said he was working with Second Lady Dorcas Rigathi to address the prevalence of drug and substance abuse and save the boychild.

“I and My wife have joined hands as a family to safe the boychild, who has drowned in alcohol and drug abuse,” he stated.

“The president called me and told me that we both don’t take alcohol so the youths should also not get lost in alcohol when we are in power,” Gachagua added.
