NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 21 – The Ministry of Interior and National Administration (MINA) has been ranked eighth out of 22 ministries in the latest performance contracting review conducted by the Cabinet Office.
The report released by Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria during the 2nd National Executive Retreat chaired by President William Ruto revealed that the Kithure Kindiki-led Ministry attained a score of 3.3000 in the 2022–2023 financial year, indicating a slight decline from its previous ranking.
While MINA’s performance has fallen short of its previous standing, the report highlights the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the Ministry of Defence (MoD), and Sheria House as the top achievers for the year, with scores of 3.0137, 3.0200, and 3.0700, respectively.
Contradicting recent findings from opinion pollsters, which consistently rated the Interior Ministry as the best-performing since President Ruto assumed office in August 2022, the ranking signifies a departure from public perception.
A study by Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA) on February 8 revealed that CS Kindiki was the most travelled member of President Ruto’s Cabinet, undertaking 192 local trips across 41 counties out of 2,741 activities assessed in 2023.
TIFA’s analysis showcased a surge in travel activity among Cabinet Secretaries during the third and fourth quarters of the year, totalling 742 and 858 trips, respectively.
On December 13, TIFA ranked CS Kindiki as the top-performing member of President Ruto’s administration, citing an impressive 65 per cent approval rating in its survey.
Kindiki was also ranked as the best-performing Cabinet Secretary in similar polls conducted in March and July last year.
