Kenya aims to go one step further at this year’s Bangabandhu Cup

 

The national men’s Kabaddi team will be out to improve its previous  performance at the 3rd edition of BangaBandhu Cup scheduled May 26th-4th June in Bangladesh.

Kenya has previously finished first runners up on two occasions and will be out to step up their performance this time.

The Kenyan squad comprising of 13 players and two officials departed for Bangladesh on Thursday ahead of the championship that kicks off Sunday.

Kenya will learn of its group opponents later on Saturday when the championship’s draw will be conducted.

The Kenyan squad is a blend of youth and experience. The team features four junior players drawn from Kenya Academy of Sports.

The players include:Danson Mbori, Geoffrey Mwangi, Ryan Neville and Tobious Muriithi.

Kenya will also rely on elite professionals who ply their trade in India Pro Kabaddi League: The five include:James Kamweti, Samuel Wafula, David Mosambayi,Daniel Omondi, Helvic Simiyu.

Five upcoming players who have lit up the Kenyan Kabaddi league also received the call up.The Five are: John Karuga,Reuben Mburu,Rodgers Omondi, Joseph Lesinko, Hosea Muriuki.

A total of 12 teams are participating in the competition. Hosts Bangladesh are the defending Champions and will be targeting to win it for the fourth consecutive time.
