The Kenya Kwanza coalition and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have formed a 10-member joint team to develop a common manifesto ahead of the 2027 general election.
President William Ruto, who announced the move during a Broad-Based leaders’ media address in Naivasha, said the team will comprise five representatives from each side to draft the coalition’s manifesto.
Ruto said the document will be based on the shared priorities of the two political formations while incorporating the aspirations and views of Kenyans.
The Kenya Kwanza team will comprise Emmanuel Nzai, Dr Daniel Mwai, Bramwel Simiyu and Dr Cecilia Ng’etich, with the UDA Executive Director serving as an ex officio member.
The ODM team will comprise Isaac Wanuge, Mariam Mbaruk, Leonida Kerubo and Prof Benard Muok, with the ODM Executive Director serving as an ex officio member.
Ruto noted that coalition will seek to build on the government’s trackrecord and complete reforms already underway while presenting Kenyans with a common programme for the next phase of the country’s development.
“What began as cooperation in government will become a common political platform upon which we shall seek the mandate of the Kenyan people in August next year,” he said.
Additionally, Ruto and ODM leader Oburu Oginga will each nominate five members to a second team tasked with developing the coalition’s framework agreement.
“Myself and Dr Oburu will each nominate another five members from each political party and formation to a second joint team to prepare the coalition framework agreement, recommend the principles and governance structures that will guide our partnership, and propose the leadership arrangements necessary to take this coalition forward,” Ruto said.
