Kindiki Urges Sustained Crackdown on Criminal Gangs in Meru

NAIROBI, Kenya Mar 9 – Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has called on security agencies in Meru County to sustain the war against criminal gangs, particularly those with political affiliations, to enhance security in the region.

Addressing the Meru County Security and Intelligence Committee, CS Kindiki emphasized the need to crackdown on criminal groups perpetrating violence driven by political motives.

He directed security agencies to dismantle these gangs and enforce the law impartially, urging them to refrain from taking sides in local political disputes.

Kindiki also ordered the arrest and prosecution of individuals involved in cattle rustling, particularly in the northern part of the county.

He stressed the importance of stopping livestock theft and holding accountable those responsible for organizing and financing such criminal activities.

In addition, the CS called for the implementation of the government’s 25-point action plan to combat drug and alcohol abuse in Meru County and nationwide. He expressed confidence that these measures, once implemented, would accelerate the county’s growth and economic development.

“Meru County’s Security and Intelligence Team must prioritize addressing three key security threats that pose risks to the county’s growth and economic development,” Kindiki affirmed.
