NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 20 – The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has unveiled its fifth strategic plan, which will guide its plans for the 2023–2027 period.
Under the plan, the Bureau seeks to onboard an array of aspects to enhance its service delivery, among them leveraging technology to onboard artificial intelligence as well as addressing data gaps.
Likewise, it seeks to fastrack data gaps as well as entrench statistical production infrastructure.
Its Director General, Macdonald Obudho, asserted that there is a need to align their systems in a bid to keep up with the ever-changing technological demands.
“One of the things we have mentioned is the need to do serious capacity building by looking at the technological advancements that we have in the world. We are focusing more on Artificial Intelligence because that is where we have noted that getting data will require other methods apart from the traditional ones,” said Obudho.
The new plan also seeks to delve into enhanced production and dissemination of reliable statistics, heightened accessibility to statistics, and bolstered use of administrative data sources.
KNBS was established in 2006 with the mandate to collect, compile, analyze, and disseminate statistical information as well as coordinate national statistical systems.
