The National Olympic Committee of Kenya(NOC-K) has challenged federations to embark on early preparations for the 2028 LA Summer Olympics in the USA.
NOCK President Shadrack Maluki at the same time called on federations to conduct transparent trials to ensure the country sends the best team for the games.
“National Olympic Committee of Kenya is working closely with all the federations to ensure that all federations get equal exposure. What do I mean by equal exposure? We want to ensure that all the federations are on the pathway to qualifications for LA 2028,” he said.
He also lauded the critical role played by sports academies during school holidays as key in harnessing sports talent in Kenya.
“All the qualifier events that are in the calendar of events of every federation, we will ensure that all the federations achieve this or represent our country to acquire these points to ensure that our athletes qualify in all federations or in all disciplines for LA 2028,” stated Maluki.
Maluki emphasized the need for more collaboration between federations and the Ministry of Sports in support of talent development.
“The National Olympic Committee, together with the Ministry, are working in collaboration to ensure that during the holidays, all school-going children are placed in these academies to scout talent, nurture, and develop. This will ensure, honestly, that there is continuity in terms of talent and in terms of participation and perfection of the same in the international arena.”Maluki said
Maluki was speaking in Oregon, USA, on the sidelines of the World Athletics Under-20 Championships.
