NTSA Board appoints Nashon Kondiwa as Director General

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 18 — The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Board of Directors has appointed Nashon Kondiwa as the new Director General of the agency, effective February 17 following the exit of George Njao in November last year.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the NTSA Board, in consultation with the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, confirmed that Kondiwa will serve a three-year term at the helm of the road safety regulator.

“Kondiwa brings over 22 years of distinguished experience in information and communication technology (ICT), innovation, public sector leadership, transportation, Intelligent Transport Systems, urban mobility, and digital transformation within the road transport sector,” the Board said.

Prior to his appointment, Kondiwa served as NTSA’s Deputy Director for Information and Communication Technology, where he led the authority’s digital transformation agenda and modernised its service delivery platforms.

“The Board is confident that Mr Kondiwa’s proven expertise in ICT leadership, strategic vision, transportation systems, and deep institutional knowledge will steer NTSA to even greater heights, delivering measurable improvements in road transport management, road safety outcomes, and operational excellence,” said NTSA Board Chairman Khatib Abdallah Mwashetani.

Kondiwa takes over from George Njao, who joined NTSA in 2019 following the expiry of Francis Meja’s three-year contract.

His appointment comes at a time when NTSA is intensifying efforts to enhance road safety, digitise services, and strengthen regulatory oversight in Kenya’s transport sector.

NTSA plays a critical role in coordinating road safety, enforcing traffic regulations, and managing vehicle and driver registration systems across the country.
