Over 17.8M Kenyans have registered with SHA, says Dr. Amoth

Over 17.8 million Kenyans have registered with the Social Health Authority (SHA).

According to the Director General of Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth, the number includes 13.2 million new members and 4.6 million who transitioned from National Hospital Insurance Funds (NHIF).

Addressing the press on Kenya’s progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC), Dr. Amoth revealed that since October 2024, over 9 billion shillings has been reimbursed to health facilities.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health says 7,900 facilities have signed manual contracts with SHA, while 2,602 have completed e-contracting, with another 1,753 in the process of finalizing the contracts.

Dr. Amoth revealed that under SHA, significant strides have been made in improving healthcare services with beneficiaries including 8 kidney transplants, 8,300 dialysis sessions, and the management of 21,000 oncology cases.
