Parade drug barons for all to see: Nassir dares govt

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 3 — Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir has called out to the national government to arrest drug barons responsible for the circulation of banned substances in the county.

Speaking in Mombasa on Saturday, the Governor said security officers and the intelligence units should be deployed to stop those responsible for the proliferation of illicit drugs in Mombasa.

The Governor stressed that security agencies should arrest suppliers and parade them publicly for Mombasa residents to see.

“Let security agencies arrest and parade drug barons for all to see rather than issue notice after notice,” he remarked.

“As the county government, we have done our part to address rehabilitation, it’s time for those responsible for dealing with supply to deal with theirs,” he stated.

Nassir stressed the county government does not have the necessary resources to execute an effective war against the supply of drugs in the county.

“We don’t have guns, we don’t have intelligence, we don’t have anything. Don’t keep on telling us that you will arrest them. It is time to arrest them now. You are currently in power, you have the Intelligence, the  DCI,” he stated.

He however vowed to use the available resources and propose a law in the county for the formation of a team that will aid in the arrest of those involved.
