Pyramids,Stade Malien ease to quarter-final, Sundowns blunder

Defending champions Pyramids FC from Egypt won their group in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League after beating  Nigeria’s Rivers United 4–1, on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Rivers United took the lead in the first half when Stephen Manu scored a long-range goal in the 33rd minute.

Pyramids came back strong in the second half when Mostafa Fathi scored in the 53rd minute to make it 1–1.

In the 77th minute, Pyramids got a penalty, and Marwan Hamdi scored to make it 2–1.

Awda Al-Fakhoury scored in the 88th minute, and Nasser Maher added another goal in stoppage time to earn the title holders a huge win .

Pyramids now have 13 points and are through to the quarter-finals and  will play Power Dynamos this weekend in the last group match.

In another fixture Stade Malien also reached the quarter-finals after beating Esperance de Tunis 1–0 in Group D.

Esperance is second with six points and needs a good result in the last round to advance.

Meanwhile former champions Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa drew 1–1 with Saint Éloi Lupopo from DR Congo in Group C and  they need to win their last match at home to advance.
