NAIROBI, KENYA, Mar 24 — Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said success in the fight against illicit brews will lead to increased life expectancy in the country.
Speaking in Meru on Saturday, Gachagua noted that apart from declining life expectancy, alcohol and drug abuse had drastically decelerated birth rates in the country.
“The community was getting extinct. You were walking on the road and you would not spot anyone having a child. But now things will go well,” he claimed.
The DP termed the eradication of “poisonous liquors” as pivotal in moulding and protecting the future generation.
Gachagua reiterated his commitment to eradicating the consumption of illicit brews stating that nothing will prompt the government to back down in the fight.
“Whoever wants to fight against me, President William Ruto, and CS Kithure Kindiki, is welcome. But we are clear in our mind that we must save the next generation,” he stated.
The DP committed to leading the fight against the sale of illicit alcohol from the front especially in the Mount Kenya region which has over time emerged as the most affected region in the country.
“I’ll be a fool as a Deputy President who comes from this region to agree my people to be killed by alcohol and drug,” he said.
“How will I allow our children to die while I’m the Deputy President, I have a responsibility to these people,” he said.
Gachagua warned that no bars will operate during the days against established regulations.
