President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto hosted family, friends, and political leaders in Kilgoris, Narok County, on Saturday for the engagement and traditional farewell ceremony of their daughter, Charlene Ruto.
The ceremony, held at Intonna Heritage Farm in Naserian Village, brought together senior leaders from across Kenya’s political spectrum to celebrate Charlene and her fiancé, Tanzanian entrepreneur Isaya Yunge, as they embarked on a new chapter in their lives.
Among the notable attendees were ODM Party leader Dr Oburu Oginga, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, various Cabinet Secretaries, Members of Parliament, CEOs, and other invited guests.
President Ruto described the occasion as a joyful family milestone, expressing his and Rachel’s gratitude and pride in celebrating their daughter’s engagement.
“Today, Mama Rachel Ruto and I celebrate with grateful hearts as our daughter Charlene begins a beautiful new chapter with her fiancé, Isaya,” President Ruto said.
He congratulated the couple and offered prayers for their future.
“Congratulations to you both on your engagement. May God bless your union, deepen your friendship, and fill the home you build together with love, joy, and enduring peace,” he added.
The President also assured his daughter of their continued support as she embarked on this new phase.
“As your parents, we are proud of you, we rejoice with you, and we will always stand beside you,” Ruto affirmed.
The ceremony also provided a family-centred setting for leaders from diverse political backgrounds to celebrate the President’s daughter.
ODM leader Oburu Oginga echoed the sentiment, describing the occasion as a joyous moment for the family. He extended his heartfelt congratulations to Charlene and
Isaya, stating, “May God bless their union, deepen their friendship, and fill the home they build together with love, joy, and enduring peace.”
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi remarked that the ceremony reflected the significance of a child’s transition into a new stage of life and the happiness it brings to parents.
“A parent’s greatest joy is watching their child grow into a person of character, faith, and purpose, and celebrating the milestones that open a new chapter in their life,” Mudavadi commented.
He further noted that marriage goes beyond the coming together of two individuals, as it also connects families and strengthens community ties.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula also joined the celebrations, describing the occasion as an important milestone for the Ruto family.
“There is no greater joy for a parent than seeing their children grow into responsible, independent adults ready to build families of their own. As a father and grandfather, I know the pride and gratitude that comes with witnessing this important milestone,” Wetang’ula said.

Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya also attended the Koito ak Chaik ceremony, congratulating Charlene and Isaya as they embarked on their new journey.
East African Community Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul was among the other invited guests who attended the traditional engagement ceremony, extending her congratulations to the couple.
