‘To be empty-headed is an incurable societal burden’: Ndii responds to body shamers

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 23 — President William Ruto’s Economic Advisor David Ndii has hit back at body shamers labeling those preoccupied with his weight as empty-headed.

In a brief response on Friday, days after a debate on his weight resurfaced online, Ndii told his critics to focus on better things.

“To be overweight is a remediable personal challenge of little or no consequence to the general public,” he asserted.

“To be empty-headed is an incurable societal burden. Ũrimũ ndũrĩ ndawa. To have so many imbeciles with nothing better to talk on a public platform is a national tragedy,” Ndii went on to state.

Debate on Ndii’s weight resurfaced online during the 2nd National Executive Retreat in Naivasha concluded on Thursday after he appeared in a photo alongside President Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking in Ndii’s defence, Dr Ahmed Kalebi, a Constaltant Pathologist, termed the weight remarks as unfortunate and insensitive.

“Being overweight is an elastic challenge which has many possible contributory factors that can be addressed or managed,” Kalebi stated.

“There should be no shame in being alive to one’s weight challenges. No one should allow negativity from others on account of weight,” he said.
