Trump Signals Possible NATO Exit as UK’s Starmer Announces Talks on Strait of Hormuz Security

U.S. President Donald Trump says he is considering the possibility of the United States stepping back from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), reigniting global debate over America’s long-term role in the alliance.

At the same time, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that the United Kingdom will host high-level discussions focused on security in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategic maritime corridors.

Trump’s remarks, made during a political address, suggested a reassessment of U.S. participation in NATO, an alliance that has underpinned Western security since the Cold War.

His comments are expected to trigger renewed debate among NATO member states over burden-sharing, defence spending, and the future direction of the alliance.

In a separate development, Starmer said the UK will convene talks involving international partners to address growing security concerns in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage for global oil shipments.

The discussions are expected to focus on maritime safety, regional stability, and safeguarding global energy routes amid rising geopolitical tensions.

The parallel developments highlight growing uncertainty in global security frameworks, with attention split between NATO’s internal cohesion and strategic flashpoints such as the Middle East’s key shipping lanes.
