NAIROBI, Kenya, March 9 – The Meteorological Department has issued an alert warning of heavy rainfall expected in select counties from Saturday to Wednesday.
In a notice released on Friday, the Director of the Kenya Meteorological Department stated that the affected areas would primarily be in the Highlands, west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley.
“Rainfall is anticipated over a few areas in the South Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South Eastern lowland, and the Coast,” the department stated.
Counties such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi are expected to experience maximum temperatures exceeding 30°C during the daytime.
Meanwhile, Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale Counties are likely to see minimum temperatures of more than 24°C.
“This forecast should be used alongside the daily (24-hour) forecast issued by this Department. County-specific forecasts are available from the offices of respective County Directors of Meteorology,” the department advised.
In addition, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta Counties are expected to experience high daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C.
