KCB Rugby will defend a remarkable slice of history when the Kabeberi 7s gets underway at the RFUEA Grounds on August 15–16, and their toughest task may come before they even reach the knockout stages.
The Bankers have won four Kabeberi titles in a row — 2022 through 2025 — matching a feat only previously managed by Mwamba RFC in the late 1980s. A fifth straight crown this year would put them alone at the top of the tournament’s history books.
Standing in their way early is a familiar and dangerous face: Kabras Sugar, drawn into the same Pool D group for the third leg of the season.
The pairing carries extra weight given how recently these two met. Kabras arrives fresh off winning the Dala 7s in Kisumu, beating Menengai Oilers in the final to claim their first circuit title of the campaign.
KCB, by contrast, leaves Kisumu with unfinished business; a 14-12 quarterfinal exit to Kenya Harlequins ended their own Dala 7s defence early.
Rounding out what’s shaping up as the tournament’s hardest group are MMUST, who pushed KCB to a 19-19 stalemate during pool play in Kisumu, and Nakuru RFC.
Elsewhere on the draw, Kenya Harlequins will look to carry their Dala 7s form into Pool A against Daystar Falcons, Kisumu RFC and Impala RFC.
Hosts Mwamba headline Pool B alongside Strathmore Leos, Nondies and newly-promoted CUEA Monks, while Menengai Oilers lead Pool C against Zetech Oaks, Blak Blad and Mombasa RFC.
For KCB, the numbers add extra motivation beyond simple pride: no side has won five straight Kabeberi titles, and a group containing the team that just dethroned them as circuit leaders is a fitting test of whether that record is within reach.
